Downtown: Seattle’s downtown is compact and squeezed between Interstate-5 and First Hill on the east and Elliott Bay on the west. It is bracketed by Seattle Center and Denny Way on the north and by the new Mariners and Seahawks stadiums on the south.

Today's Pioneer Square was first settled in 1852, and the downtown gradually expanded. The downtown area includes three historic districts (Pioneer Square, Pike Place Market, and the International District), a bustling waterfront and retail core, and numerous cultural attractions.
