SEATTLE & NORTH
North Seattle:
The area between NE 85th Street and the
Seattle city limits at NE 145th Street was not annexed until 1954. The pace of
early community life was set by farming and logging, and the area became
renowned for its horse trails, pastures, and polo fields (one of which was
converted into the municipal Jackson Park Golf Course). The automobile
accelerated development after World War II with the 1950 opening of Northgate,
one of the nation's first shopping malls, the proliferation of Lake City's
numerous car dealerships, and completion of Interstate-5 in the mid-1960s
